Food support lies at the heart of our international projects, in line with the second Goal of the 2030 Agenda, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture.”
Ongoing projects
Since 2023, Progetto Arca has been implementing the “Zero Hunger” project in Brazil, funded by the 8×1000 contributions allocated by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The intervention focuses on two educational institutions located respectively in Salvador de Bahia and Parintins, in the state of Amazonas: the Instituto Infância João Paulo II and the Instituto Nossa Senhora das Graças, managed by Associação Don Gino Malvestio.
The project aims to provide food support to 446 students, both children and adolescents, through the regular supply of school canteens and monthly distribution of food baskets to their families.
Another key goal is to raise awareness about healthy eating principles and to promote self-sustaining practices within local communities. With the support of an agronomist in each intervention area, training activities have been organized to develop small-scale farming plans within the schools and home gardening initiatives at the residences of beneficiary families.

Past projects
In Manaus, Brazil, the agricultural school Rainha dos Apóstolos provides vocational training opportunities to young farmers, promoting social inclusion and access to the labor market for boys and girls from one of the most disadvantaged regions of the country.
Due to the pandemic, many families were no longer able to afford the school fees (less than €16 per month), which also cover meals and accommodation.
In 2022 and 2023, Progetto Arca launched a partnership with the institute to help prevent school dropouts. As a result, over 120 students were able to continue their educational path to become farmers. A total of approximately 360,000 meals were distributed.
Activities carried out:
- food support for students of two schools located in Salvador de Bahia and Parintins: Instituto Infância João Paulo II (project partner) and Instituto Nossa Senhora das Graças, managed by Associação Don Gino Malvestio (project partner)
- food assistance for vulnerable families in nearby communities, including the families of students, through the distribution of basic food baskets
- community empowerment activities focused on small-scale agriculture
