In Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world, 30 million people live—27% of whom are minors. Among them, around 5,000 children live on the streets, although this is likely an underestimate.
In Dhapasi, a village in the Kathmandu Valley, 32-year-old Binita Aryal has opened a shelter for these children. Today, she and her husband Indra live with 60 children, from ten months to 18 years old, most of whom are orphans or come from families too poor to care for them. Together, they have created a large family where everyone looks after one another.
Binita and Indra’s home, the heart of the Our Children Foundation Nepal, receives no state funding, and the needs are many: food, clothing, education. Since 2024, Progetto Arca has been supporting their work to give each child the opportunity to study and build the life they dream of. Much more than a shelter, Binita and Indra’s home is a family, a place where, despite hardships, new possibilities grow.
