According to the latest report by the Social Research Institute of the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB), nearly 52% of Venezuela’s population lives in extreme poverty, and as many as 82.8% of families are in monetary poverty, meaning they do not have enough income to afford the basic food basket due to rampant inflation.

This ongoing economic and social crisis, which has gripped the country since early 2013, is hitting the poorest segments of the population the hardest — especially children. An increasing number of minors are at risk of malnutrition.

Since 2021, Progetto Arca has partnered with Asociación Civil Trabajo y Persona to support school canteens in six educational institutions located in Sucre, Lara, Carabobo, Caracas, Mérida, and Monagas, among the 10 poorest regions in Venezuela.

The project provides approximately 10,000 meals every month to 500 children aged 7 to 12. For many of them, the school lunch is the only opportunity in the day to eat a healthy and complete meal.
