India was the first country where we launched an international project, back in 2012: the construction of a Dairy Farm in the Kerala region to provide training and job opportunities for orphaned and homeless youth.
Today, our efforts are focused in the poorest slums of Kolkata. We work in partnership with the NGO Seva Kendra Calcutta, with whom we opened a bakery to help feed the needy, the poor and sick, and people experiencing homelessness living on the streets of the Indian megacity.
The project covers the salary of a baker and the purchase of raw materials, making it possible to bake 90 kilograms of bread every day, which are then distributed on the streets, at train stations, and in shelters by the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa. Thanks to the new bakery, around 3,000 people a month receive food support.
In 2023, our collaboration with Seva Kendra Calcutta expanded to include medical assistance for people with disabilities and those in extreme poverty living in the slums.
